How to write a cheque in Canada

  1. Write the amount in numbers in the box, e.g. 1,250.75.
  2. On the line, write the dollars in words and the cents as a fraction: One thousand two hundred fifty and 75/100.
  3. Draw a line through any empty space after the words so nothing can be added.

Many people add “and” after “hundred” (“one hundred and fifty”). Both styles are understood; on cheques, the word “and” is usually reserved for the cents to avoid confusion.
